Hashirama Senju is a legend from the Naruto world who grew up in a war-torn era and ultimately became the man who was named the First Hokage of Konohagakure. As a master of all the shinobi arts, Hashirama rose to the top of the era and was known widely as the strongest of his time.

He changed the world with his vision and because of that, he”s one of the most loved Kage among the Naruto fans. While not everything has been revealed about his life, quite a lot of interesting stuff has been shown about the First Hokage.
Hashirama Senju was known to be the strongest of his era and the only one who could give him a proper fight was none other than Madara Uchiha. With his powers, Hashirama was several levels above everyone else and thus, people held him in great regard.
His powers had made him the only second person to gain the title of “God of Shinobi” after Hagoromo Otsutsuki, with Hiruzen Sarutobi being the third and the last one.
Hashirama Senju appeared in the story during the Chunin Exams arc when Orochimaru used the Edo Tensei to summon him and Tobirama to the battlefield to fight against Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage in Naruto Chapter 118.
Being extremely powerful, Hashirama was able to give Hiruzen Sarutobi quite a tough time in battle and this was him using just a fraction of his true power.
Hashirama Senju”s power came from the mighty Wood Release Kekkei Genkai. This ability was something that only he possessed since birth. After him, no other shinobi in the Naruto series was seen wielding it through natural means.
As the name suggests, it allowed him to create and manipulate vegetation and use it to full effect in battle. It was strong enough to completely change the surroundings into forests at full power.
Hashirama Senju saw the horrors of war at quite an early age and together with Madara Uchiha, wanted to do something about it. By adulthood, he rose to the top of the Senju Clan and managed to make peace with those of the Uchiha.

Ultimately, after joining forces with Madara Uchiha, a village was created where children would be protected and peace would prevail. Madara Uchiha named this village Konohagakure.
After seeing what Hashirama Senju had achieved with his model of a shinobi village, the entire world followed him and eventually created their own shinobi villages to enjoy peace and stability.

Thus, the likes of Sunagakure, Iwagakure, Kumogakure, and Kirigakure were born. The world changed because of Hashirama and Madara”s idea, however, peace is something that”s quite hard to maintain and this system failed to last long.
5 He Defeated Madara Uchiha And The Nine-Tails
Hashirama Senju possessed tremendous strength and this was seen when he fought the likes of Madara Uchiha in battle. To ensure victory, Madara brought the Nine-Tails along with him— however, Hashirama was able to make quick work of it with the power of the Wood Release and the Sage Mode.
The two continued their tough fight that lasted for days and eventually ended when Hashirama Senju stabbed him in the back, killing him in the process.
At some point after becoming the Hokage of Konohagakure, Hashirama Senju married Mito Uzumaki and strengthened the ties between Konohagakure and Uzushiogakure.

Mito also appeared in his battle against Madara Uchiha and when the Nine-Tails was put to sleep, she sealed it inside herself, becoming the First Jinchūriki of the Tailed Beast in the process.
3 He Collected Other Tailed Beasts
Hashirama Senju”s Wood Release had the power to subdue the Tailed Beasts and fans saw that during his fight against Madara Uchiha and Kurama. Afterward, he collected all other Tailed Beasts in a similar fashion and in an attempt to maintain peace during the First Great Ninja War, distributed them among the Hidden Villages.
While the idea itself was alright, it didn”t do much to stop the wars from erupting, and soon after the First Great Ninja War continued, followed by three more eventually.
Hashirama Senju was one of the many reincarnations of Asura Otsutsuki, the second son of the Sage of Six Paths. Because of this, he had tremendous chakra up his sleeve and had great vitality, which was further boosted by him being a Senju clan member.
After Hashirama, Naruto Uzumaki became the reincarnation of Asura Otsutsuki, while Sasuke Uchiha had Indra reincarnated into him. The two were finally able to end their cycle of reincarnations at the Valley of the End.
1 He Died A Mysterious Death
Hashirama Senju”s death was never explained in the series. However, it is known that both he and Tobirama Senju died during the First Great Ninja War. Although Tobirama died by making himself a decoy, Hashirama did so mysteriously.

It is believed that his high self-regeneration rate, which came from rapid cell division, eventually aged him much faster than normal and shortened his life-span tremendously, killing him in the process.
